BASIC LEADERSHIP LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES
In order to become certified as a Girl Scout Troop Leader, you must complete three Learning Opportunities. They must be completed within three months of being appointed as part of the Leadership Team for theTroop.

These are:
1. Orientation at your Service Unit level. To do this, contact your Service Unit Team.
2. Basic Orientation provided in an on-line session through GSUSA

                Learning Log User’s Manual
3. Learning Opportunity for your particular age level. This is a class type session.

2008 Learning Opportunities

DAISY LEADERSHIP LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES

This session will prepare you to be part of the Leadership Team for Daisy Girl Scouts. Please bring your Daisy Leader Guide, Daisy Girl Scout Activity Book, SafetyWise and Volunteer Policies with you.

BROWNIE LEADERSHIP LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES
This session will prepare you to be part of the Leadership Team for Brownie Girl Scouts. Please bring your Brownie Leader Guide, Brownie Girl Handbook, Brownie Try-Its, SafetyWise and Volunteer Policies with you.

JUNIOR LEADERSHIP LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES
This session will prepare you to be part of the Leadership Team for Junior Girl Scouts. Please bring your Junior Leader Guide, Junior Girl Scout Handbook, Junior Badge Book, SafetyWise and Volunteer Policies with you.

LEADERSHIP LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES FOR LEADERS OF GIRLS 11-17
This session will prepare you to be part of the Leadership Team for girls ages 11-17. Please bring your Cadette Girl Scout Handbook, Senior Girl Scout Resource Book, Interest Project Book, Studio 2B materials, SafetyWise and Volunteer Policies with you.

SATURDAY MORNING SEMINARS

Come and join your fellow Girl Scout Volunteers for some exciting Saturday morning events. We will be having guest speakers to discuss a variety of requested topics. Each of our guests has a wealth of experience and expertise in their field. There will be ample time for you to ask questions as well. A light continental breakfast will be served at 9 AM, the Seminar will begin at 9:30 AM and a Q & A session will start at approximately 11:30 AM.

ENRICHMENT SESSIONS
These are Learning Opportunities to enrich your leadership experiences. Most have been suggested by other Girl Scout volunteers. They are not required but may prove helpful.

We are currently developing a schedule for learning opportunities for fall. These will include:

  • Introduction to the new Leadership Journeys for girls at all levels  (these will provide only information on the Journeys)
  • Transition Learning Opportunities for Leaders moving from one level to another (these will concentrate on the difference in levels (badges/patches, programs, troop government, etc.) and will not cover the basics of Girl Scouting or meeting structure.
  • Full Learning Opportunities covering all of the above plus the basics of leadership – for all age levels.  This is intended to be for new leadership teams.
  • Outdoor sessions – Staying overnight in Buildings and Staying overnight in Tents.
  • Trips workshops – intended for trips over 2 nights but informative for all trips.
  • Learning Opportunities for Service Unit Teams.
  • Encampment planning.
  • Adult and Child CPR, Adult AED and Standard First Aid – qualifies you as a Level 1 First Aider.  Both full courses and recertification courses will be offered.
  • Special Seminars presented by outside experts in areas such as
      • Developmental Stages of Girls
      • Helping Girls Get Along
      • Dealing With Difficult Adults
      • Bullying
